What did YOU do to your van today?

Woohoo.

Installed my new ARB 2500 Awning with Gowesty brackets. Installed GW rain fly. Put my new ARB fridge in the van to use for a camping trip this weekend. I think i have about 14 cents left to my name.

Bled the fronts for the first time since owning this van - waited too long for that, but feel much better now. Wink

Since I had to run it in order to move it to the other side of the garage (before replacing rear hoses
& adjusting drums) decided to make it official & get it out of storage. Time for a trip to town..yee-haw!

Installed my "new-non-powered-power-mirrors" (courtesy of Sambanista jonglasel)...goodbye floppys!
By beer time I only managed to replace one rear flex hose, but that was WAY easier than either of the fronts.

How come is that? Laughing

this morning i started with a led-stripe and a L-shaped peace of aluminium.
the plan was to add some light to the glove compartment.
so, i jb-welded the led-stripe to the aluminium and rivited it onto the dashboard. I soldered the led parrallel to the maplight, so as soon as u switch on the maplight the leds are ON....

while i was layin under the dashboard, i found room for my viar 380c compressor.
It fits right inbetween the dash and the glovecompartment.
so, i made a custom bracket to hold the viar in place.
had to make the bracket in a certain angle to make sure it doesn't touch anything....

thought it's a dry spot and it won't be in my way.. only gotta put the vent hoses back in and find me a decent size air tank o i can hook everything up and have air onboard....

Completed a while back, but thought I'd share...

Cut a hole in the bottom of the ashtray to make room for the iPod connector from my stereo. Glued it in there at the desired height and angle with some JB weld. Also modified the cover of the ashtray to I can lay the iPod down and close the ashtray cover over it, and no one knows it's there.

Also completed a while back, but hey, I'm new here...

Found some decent 5 or 6" speakers on sale for like $100.
Removed the old panels and fabric.
Cut new holes for the new speakers and tweeters (and filled the old holes).
Put some Fat Mat on the door metal to reduce noise.
Found some fabric I liked at the old-lady fabric store, and glued it to the panels.
Installed panels and speakers - sounds way better than those tiny VW stock speakers!!

Replaced second rear brake hose; adjusted both drums; bled entire system & clutch with fresh fluid; cleaned, de-ox'd & reconnected my formerly corroded & unprotected temp gauge sender & finished by re-inventing the temp sender boot using regular as well as liquid electrical tape.

re those Wolfsburg eject buttons: For those of us who don't have Wolfsburgs, nor the logo, one could make much the same with the VW lapel pins.

Painted my lower grill today with Krylon fusion. It's got me pretty excited to tackle the other one as soon as I can. I also attempted to fix the noise coming from my horn contact ring. It's seems a lot better now but its still talking to me every once and a while.

Nice knowing its there isn't it. The digital 3rd brake light comes on a fraction before the light bulb ones.

I patted my yellow girl on the flank as I passed her to get the lawn mower out. She's looking a little forlorn up on jackstands, so I promised by mid week I'd have her tranny out the rest of the way. Just hanging by the front mount bolts.

Finished installation of new Fiamma 10ft awning. I used three GoWesty brackets and installed rivet nuts into the body panel only for the front and back brackets. Forget about the rivet nut tooling provided by GoWesty, the rivet nut will spin in the hole 9 out of 10 times plus you might damage the panel. I used Harbor Freight rivet puller with cheater bars and McMaster-Carr rivet nuts with 1/4"-20 SS bolts. Worked great.

At Alaric's Garage, installed GW springs front and rear on our 88 Westy. The rears required shimming up by .5" to make the van sit almost level. Not mentioned....

On Saturday, I installed the SewFine rear bench and jump seat. I'd installed the panels a week or so ago. My plan is to make a flame maple table top to replace the original. I think a good piece of tiger striped maple will really make that wall sing.

New SewFine curtains are on the way.
