1990 Westy, stock power windows.
Passenger side window stopped working two weeks after I (thought I) fixed it. What did I do wrong?
TImeline:
1/ The passenger side window was always a bit slower than the driver side.
2/ Stopped working one day
3/ Tested the switch, tested OK. Applied 12V at the motor wires, did not turn.
4/ Took the motor+slider assembly out. Disconnected the motor from the gearbox. Motor turned freely, no sign of rust/seizing. Assembly spinned freely, cable moving as expected.
5/ Lubed the cable and gearbox, bench-tested the assembly by applying 12V at the motor, worked like a charm.
6/ Put everything back. Works great. Bonus: the window slides up and down faster, matching the speed on the driver's side.
7/ Two weeks later, stopped working again. Argh.
8/ Need help. _________________ '90 Little Blue Truck, 2WD auto, FAS GenV 2.0 NA (AVH)

One of your wires partially disconnected while you were reassembling things, then completely disconnected two weeks later. _________________ '87 Syncro

Which wire are you thinking? Since I applied 12V directly at the switch, that only leaves the wiring from the switch to the motor. So maybe the 2-wire connector? _________________ '90 Little Blue Truck, 2WD auto, FAS GenV 2.0 NA (AVH) |

I have no idea, dude. Whatever wires you touched. I've chased my tail for hours in that exact scenario, just not on vanagon. _________________ '87 Syncro

Thanks for the insight. I'll make sure that connector is tight. _________________ '90 Little Blue Truck, 2WD auto, FAS GenV 2.0 NA (AVH) |

There's an intermittent fault at wires where they pass through pillar into door?
Get a helper to slowly open - close passenger door while you keep switch at driver side depressed?

l'd pull the wiring harness out of the doors pull the wires from the rubber sleeves, make a note of the colors where they go in each terminal, and test and replace as necessary.
the wiring on the switches, l've started making them 6'' longer when l replace the wiring, so that l can tuck the wiring toward the 1/4 window, out of the way of the glass going up and down, it's not a big deal, but it makes my life a little easier. _________________ markswagen {mobile mechanic} san diego area all early VW's cared for.
