Me and the van took my step brother and his clan to pick up their new van. They had a Mazda Bongo, which decided to blow up on them and only had a very limited budget to replace it, but after trawling through a lot of 'interesting' vans and clocking up a lot of miles over the last month we found this bargain at a car boot sale;

A bargain at £2000 and another guy converted to VW!! _________________ My name is Roy |

After going on a ski trip for a couple of days, and sleeping in the Syncro westy.. I went up a forest road on the way home..
I found these tracks.. anyone know what they are from?
there is what looks like a big bird, and maybe a coyote?

High Desert driving in Nevada, met a bunch of unmarked forks in the road that looked like this: amazingly we still got where we needed to go.

Yesterday, loaded up 450lbs of the old aluminum siding that was replaced on the house and took it to a scrap yard. had to take out the front seat and it was packed to the brim with siding. (of course, it was all cooconed inside a few bigass tarps) They were amazed at how much siding the "hippie" was able to fit in there. wish i snapped a picture. it was quite the sight. another reason why my unhealthy obsession gets worse every day...
Pickup truck? who needs one of them.
Random tip of possible usefulness:
While i had the seat out i decided to clean up the rails and put some wax on the seat runners. Used a castrol wax stick. Now the seat moves back and forth like its brand new. No more jiggling my body weight for 5 min every time i wanna adjust the seat. It slides like its on butter. _________________ -'87 Westy

Just got back from our longest trip yet(time & miles). We met up with our neighbors and some of their friends along the CO/Wy border on some BLM land. Awesome weekend trip. We left Fort Collins on Friday afternoon about 5pm, hoping to make it up there by dark. It didn't happen. The van's been overheating, so we had to take it slow and pull over a few times. We ended up pitching camp right before dark, just north of Chambers Lake right off 103. It's a really nice dirt road that runs from Hwy 14 to the Wyoming border, about 40 miles. The van really feels at home on the dirt and runs a lot cooler. The next morning we drove the final 52 miles to meet our neighbors. This BLM land gave me a taste of what Colorado was like a hundred years ago, wild and unfiltered. Got to explore some trails on four wheelers and shoot some really cool guns. My neighbor has quite a collection. God, I love public land. Spring has barely sprung up there. It was pretty cold the whole weekend and snowed on us a couple of times. Here's some pictures:
Spotted our first moose ever. This one was just off Hwy 14 on the road to Chambers Lake. We ended up seeing four during the trip.
Here's the van on 103 heading toward Wyoming

Camp dogs begging for dinner. They ate pretty good that night.

Went to Angeles National Forest for some camping. That SR 2 is a fun one in a vanagon. Hit the 200K mark. An update on costs to date (since 185K) to come... _________________ '85 Wolfsburg Weekender |

We tried the Comanche Peak Wilderness Area over the weekend. It's up the Poudre(pronounced Pooder) Canyon from Fort Collins about fifty miles or so. Really nice area. Van ran great. Saw some moose. Our spot we picked to camp was located about a mile down this narrow path cut into the woods. We had the whole place to ourselves. Probably because the path was so gnarly. The van had a pretty hard time doing it.
The next day we took a dip in Peterson Lake. The water was a little chilly so I stayed in just long enough to rinse off. Those are wild raspberries growing next to the van. Had to do a three point turn from that spot which got my wife's heart rate up. The road was really narrow. Another great weekend thanks to VW.

Just finished a three week trip from Salida CO, To Norcal, OR, WA, Vancouver Island, Southern BC, ID, MT, WY, and back to CO. 4656 miles. Saw lots of other Vanagons along the way and most exchanged waves. Damn fine country we live in. BC isn't so bad either. No major issues. Camped 18/22 nights. _________________ '90 Westy Syncro EJ25 (money pit #1)

I used the search!
Repaired the drivers side power window motor. (frozen, beat with hammer and then sprayed with WD) lubed cables and such.
I CAN'T BELEIVE THE WINDOW WORKS AGAIN!!
The PO said it quit along time ago. Also instaled new driver door speaker. Sony 5"x3". You would think that VW ment for these sizes to be used. The door metal was cut out to this shape. Will finish the passenger regulator repair (thank's search!) with small nuts and bolts, and install other speaker.
Researching the $50 paint job and need to get going on the bodywork.

Kyle,
Congrats. I love it when I can find answers using the search. But, this thread is for what you did WITH the van. There is another thread for what you did TO your van. I could care less, and I'm happy for your success. But you might want to post over in the other thread too, in case someone happens along with your same problem.
On to the next maintenance thing.

Oh, learnin' all the time! I went mountain biking at San Felasco today. The homemade racks on the back of the van work great! Can't wait for a real roadtrip like in 2002 in the 82 diesel up the east coast with the surfboards!

Big storm here took out power for a few hours, so I popped the top in the van, made dinner, and sat back to watch a movie on the notebook computer! |

Today I drove 200 miles round trip to get a part I saw on Craigslist (rear deck cushion/mattress). We had agreed on a price and a meeting place and time. When I got there the guy said, "Whoa, it's not here, I guess someone stole it!"
3 1/2 hours time, $45 gas...damn! The guy did give me an '87 grill and headlight for my time...and I took them, even though I own an '85. Maybe I'll break even on gas with those...lol! _________________ '85 GL w/2.1L "The Tardis"
