Question, we took this picture of the white water bird hunting for food while on the water.
But, is it a Crane or Heron?

Egret is my guess, a type of heron. I believe cranes look slightly different but I could be wrong. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

We have a video of it flying off once it felt we were too close. Quite the wingspan, graceful in flight too. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

They paved Paradise and put in a parking lot, so we drove our van there!
Our new-to-us van is coming along nicely, so we took an overnight trip to Mt. Rainier National Park. We camped along Forest Road 52 (Skate Creek Road) near Packwood, WA, and drove up the Stevens Canyon road from Ohanapecosh to Paradise.
Paradise is at 5400', and other than having to crank the starter a second time after lunch we had no issues.

As opposed to its cousin, the so so Egret...
Thanks, I had forgotten to check Wikipedia to ID the bird. It was fun watching several of them work either side of the Lagoon where we were in the Kayak. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

Moved a trailerload of compost around the circle driveway so we could unload at spots, doing its best BMW impression (that's "Bayerischer Mistwagen" an unkind term for the cars meaning Bavarian Manure Wagon, what farmers use to spread a manure slurry on their fields).

Took my Bastard for a trip to Tahoe from the Bay area, I was hoping for Snow so I could play with Non Syncro 4WD system. No luck.
Part of the trip was to see Dave at Outwesty to help me move my Espar from under the rear seat up to the front Walkthrough at the side of the right seat base.
Van ran like a champ. About 15 MPG, lotta hills and my foot into into it. Sizing it up for a X mas to AZ trip with a few stops.
This 19 thing has removed lodging with the In laws, so we're bring it with us.

The Syncro as most were sold are actually All Wheel Drive. A 4 Wheel Drive 'locks in' and has no viscous coupler. Many folks use the terms interchangeably. But they are not the same.
On top of that confusion, a 'locker' usually refers to an apparatus that locks the differential(s). That is when you break stuff if you try to 'steer' while locked. _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

To be exact there are no set terminologies. Anyone who uses the terms interchangeably is not wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-wheel_drive
My personal definition of 4wd is a selectable transfercase with a solid rear axle. So no Vanagon would fit that. But that definition can change and since there is no standard, it's not any more or less wrong than yours. _________________ '87 Syncro

i drove my non syncro Vanagon Westfalia (with Peloquin) up a steep gravel mountain road, camped at the top in sub freezing temps, then drove back down the steep gravel mountain road the next morning.
it was awesome.

If you're bird-curious, the Merlin Bird ID app put out by Cornell University will help you id many birds by answering a few questions (where, size, colors, activity, etc.).
It's not perfect but it can be surprisingly helpful.
