|

I had my MV camshaft reground and would like to check it. What are the specifications? Cam was parkerized so some measurements may be slightly off. Not sure how thick the coating could be.
Lift
1. (Closest to sprocket).3036"
2. 3086"
3. 2862"
4. 2819"
Also what should be my end play be for the camshaft. I only see a max in the Bentley.
Thank you. _________________ 84 1.9 Westy |

Specs compared to stock? Other than cam journal dimensions you’d measure cam duration and cam lift. It’s hard to imagine a company that regrinds cams wouldn’t get them spot on. How are you making those measurements? You might get better results setting the cam and crank in the case and degree the cam with a degree wheel, a lifter installed, and a dial indicator. Lots of you tube videos on degreeing a cam shaft. Sorry I do not know the stock lift and duration. The other option is to find a speed machine shop that has a Cam Doctor.
The company that ground the cam should have supplied a cam sheet with the job. If not, reach out to them. I’ve used Web Cam without issues. Worse case, send them the cam and they can measure it for you. I’ve done this with used racing cams I’ve come into possession that had no markings. _________________ ☮️ |

remember to remove the tang on one shell for new double thrust cam bearing. i set my clearance to 0.002-0.003". kind of a fun process.
here's a good thread addressing cam thrust clearances:

you'll want an extreme pressure camlube grease on the cam lobes for break in, not just assembly lube. use a true break in oil like Driven BR30 for the ZDDP additive and run the engine at 2,000-3,000 rpm right away for 20 minutes on first startup to splash lubricate the cam and lifters until they work harden themselves. _________________ -dan
