That's some great pictures! In the last picture, I wonder what he's doing? Stamping the VIN? Looks like the transaxle is bolted to the spring plates, but has to be tilted down to be put into the pan. I wouldn't think that the tranny would fit that way. There has to be enough movement in the spring plates, and axle shafts to do that though, because that's what they're doing. Interesting.

CCG Wagen (Control Commission for Germany) Note roof seam. At that time the factory could not get steel sheet large enough for the entire roof, so they had to make it in two pieces.
