I was thinking the same thing, Peter.
Looking at all those white cans in the back seat, it was probably a water station.
Off topic, but my father was in North Africa with the U.S. forces, and he said they washed clothes and most everything else in gasoline since it was easier to get than water. About the only thing water was used for was drinking and food preparation.
