I am about to finish the restauration of a 1951 Karmann convertible. There are three alu trims across the convertible top, one at the far end, one above the rear window and one in front above the windshield. The two in the back caused no problem installing. However I am uncertain about how to manage the front one. It has to be bent 90 degrees at the ends. My question is. In addition to the special nails shall there be holes drilled and screws inserted at the ends. The trim that came with the car had holes but I guess you can’t be sure that they had been there from the beginning or added later.

My mechanic who has installed this before said that there are holes for a nail on the ends of the front aluminum trim strip. He suggested if there are no holes in the wood piece, to first pre-drill about 1/3 of the depth of the nail.Tthen make a small curved block and line it with felt so you can hammer in the trim without flattening it.

When they changed moldings to chromed brass? I have such a front molding with screw holes on the ends.
