anyone use these? i came up with a few search results but not much.

I would love to see a photo of what they look like on a bus. I dont want to look like a redneck, but I will be driving in sand and need a wide footprint.

thanks Very Happy

Here's my bud Cyril with his 14" BFG ATs.... tough to make out from here, but I don't think they look redneck at all. I've been very happy with them, and I thnk they look great. BUT they are almost entirely impossible to find in the 14 inch size. I think I bought the last 4 in the country! Any online shop you'll try to order from will list it on their page, but will call you back a few days after you've ordered to explain that they're out of stock. In fact, they're discontinued. Mad

But great tires if you can find them!

These are Bridgestone All Terrains 27x8.5x14

Other posts have said they are a discontinued tire and are only available as stock on hand so you might be able to find a set if you called around.

I don't know how to link cause I am lame at this computer stuff but search for a post named "14" BFG All Terrain Question" in the Vanagon forum. I think this post also explains some other tire options in the same size.

Just be aware that if you end up with taller tires (circumference wise) you end up gearing up your final drive ratio.

It is important if you have to worry about your cylinder head temps.

Here is a handy little calculator for looking at different tires circumferences.... Put in the stock 185R14 on the drop down menu to see where you are starting from.

I had my BF AT's for over about a year and a half. I love them and so do most of the other bus guys around here. I don't think there is a shortage. I bought all five of mine from tirerack.com. Great price and shipping was lightning fast (hint hint bus depot). Here's 2 pics, not the greatest pics but you can get another view.

Our new spare

Also check out CJMazier's gallery. He's running a set, and I believe he ran them all the way from Canada to Baja.

Good tires, haven't had a problem with quality. They are just barely stiff enough to pass a acceptable bus tires. What i mean is they have a load rating of 1520lbs. per tire. I believe our buses call for a 1550 lb. load rating for each tire, so they are close. I do know that they only have 3 ply sidewalls so they are not as stiff sidewall wise as a true load C tire. They are a little noisey on the highway. They are 27 inches tall so you do lose a little pep and if you have a head temp guage (I don't, ignorance is bliss) you might want to watch those temps as Randy previously mentioned.

Ok, I just looked on the tire rack and they are not listed anymore. May be they are disappearing. I just bought my spare in August and had no issues. Ugh?

Try off-road shops
The bfgoodrich all-terrains are king in off-road world
They handle abuse just like any other off-road tire
but not as noisy my off-road friend said the bf...mud terrians
Are better, handle just as good on streets & no different than all-terains
As far as noise is concerned
The draw back........ More expensive will wear out a little faster on streets
& harder to find in large sizes
This is coming from a friend who buys 38 inch tires & off-roads every weekend
So maybe mud-terrains could still be found in vw size

I use them and love them. I drove them 12000 miles from Toronto to the tip of Baja and back and they are wearing beautifully and handle great. I took them on many different types of sand and they worked well. Even had to air them down to 12lbs to get out of deep sand and again they worked fine. They also have a wheel protector bead which is really nice, saves the wheels from getting scratched up. They are a bit taller than stock however according to my GPS they made my speedometer much more accurate.

I am in Canada and they are still available here…

Here is a picture in Baja;

I just happen to be doing some maintenance on the bus now that she is put away for the winter so some tires are off.

Here is a picture of the bead that protects the wheel

Are those the BFG Radial AT KO's? If so, have used them on my 4Runner's for years, really good in sand, snow. They handle decent as well, for my 31-10.50's usually averaged 45-55K miles.

Here's a story, when changing to a new set at Costco to tire guy tells me there were two big nails in the tread, though the tire did not leak air--->they are very tough tires!

Good choice. Perfect alternative to the BFGs and they are available everywhere. I love mine and will soon be putting some on my vanagon.

Sorry, no digicam. I can tell you that I like the tires. They have a less aggressive tread pattern than the BFGs, so are a little quieter on the road, yet still seem good on dirt and snow. They look less beefy on the vehicle, but I think they are a great all around tire, and they're available!

I found these at Good Year. I think they're generic Wranglers. The size is 195/75 R14 Courser LT.
