BUMP
Anyone running 215/75/15 BFG on split 15" wheels on early bay? |
Yep
Great tires, no rubbing at all at stock height, no engine temp issues noise level is barely noticeble since the engine overrules it at certain rpm's
Steering is lighter and mpg looks better compared with my 195/75/14 ones.

You can just throw on the 15" wheels with the BFG 215/75/15's with no ramifications on a bay window? Did you adjust speedometer at all?
I need new tires, and looking at the new Hankook RA18 in 185R14, but man the BFGs just seem to be calling my name.. but no stock in 14" left.. The 15" looks like a good idea but I'm concerned about ramifications of swapping.. _________________ -----

^^^ Pretty sure those are just beetle wheels. If so, the offset may cause clearance issues on a bus, especially with big tires.
Nothing compares to stock 15" bus wheels. _________________ nothing |

A local tire shop near me was able to get BFG A/T within a day and they are beautiful tires. I love the way they make the bus sit. And the look they have on it. The ride is also much improved over the dry-rotted car tires that the P.O. had on it. It was a night and day difference. _________________ 1975 Beetle 1600dp 4spd Daily Driver.

I think your correct.
They spec. 20.5 offset,
T2 is 47.5mm (1.870") according to this chart.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=352467
Does anyone know the Offset for the stock wide five 5x205mm Beetle rims?
Thank you

^^^ Those are the tires Goodyear makes for the US postal service vans. They are not supposed to be for sale to the general public. I have a set on my 68 single cab that were used take-offs from a tire dealer that services the postal vans.
They are perfect for 14" buses. I had a set on my old 68 Westy, too.

assuming you mean "small five" bus wheels, try van-cafe. _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

15" Passat steelies have a good offset for a '71-up Bus and only need minimal mods to the wheels. Open the center bore to ~68-70MM (I used a 2.75" holesaw) and use small-ball 14MM lug nuts. Should be fairly cheap and easy to find at a wrecker, too -- I paid around $50 for a set of 4 at the local Pik-N-Pull, complete with junk tires... |

I tried to find a set of the BFG 27-8.50-14 a little over a year ago and didn't have any luck. I did however find a set of General Grabber A/T 2's in that size. They are almost an exact copy of the BFG's. I'm pretty happy with them so far.
I know this is old, but "Shaun Murray" Are you lowered at all on this pic?

BFG's didn't come in the 27x8.5r14 size that I recall...
You had to get them in the 195 size when they were available. I really hope they end up doing additional runs in the future, as while mine certainly have plenty of tread left - id like to keep running them in the future as well.

the BFG A/T 14" were 27x8.5" in the "old school", made in USA.
then they were discontinued for a while.
next were the "new" 195/75/14s KO2, made in MX.
now discontinued as well.
the current, new tread pattern, KO2 (and KM2) only come in 15" with a 215 profile as the smallest size.
5x112mm 15" steel and alloy rims that may or may not require modification and/or wheel spacers and/or different lug hardware to fit a bus are readily available from VW, Mercedes and aftermarket sources in NA and EU.
i'm not an expert on tire rolling diameter or wheel/tire load ratings but there are people around here who are, so do your homework! _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |
