One more of the side. No problem fitting front and rear tires and more than enough room for the 7.00's if anyone is wondering about compatibility for a stock height lipped wheel well bus.
Noisier than the radials, but it feels a lot more sturdy and they grip really well. I haven't driven on the highway with them, but up to 45mph is smooth even with unbalanced tires. |
Any update on these tires? Had them up to highway speeds or on any long trips yet? Im looking for tires for my new 61 Kombi and im digging the look of these. But plan to use the Bus for some long camping trips.
Thanks! _________________ LOVE splits more than Jean-Claude Van Damme |

69vwcarl,
Pete had STA supertraxions on his trip from Detroit to Alaska. I think they're about the same setup as what you're looking at in the green panel in the previous post.
read through his thread to find out how those tires fare.
the important part though,is at the bottom of this page:

Finally pulled the trigger on some BFG KM2's.. they are expensive!!
I'll be mounting them on my '65 Kombi as soon as the drums are back from being resurfaced.

Looks good! Do they rub in the front or rear?
I have to admit, I have never seen a single quiet pack that exits alongside the bumper before. Was that your modification? _________________ nothing |

They rub in the front when the wheels are turned and I'm going down an incline in reverse... such as backing out of my driveway.
I actually have a quiet pack on both sides... the best and cheapest solution for exhaust on a type IV motor in my Split! _________________ "My ex-wife had a hint of a beard and she looked like a manly-girl... that made no difference..."

You might have some broken leaves in the front suspension. 215's should clear. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

YES Im aware of how his journey had its share of mishaps.. I don't know that i would totally blame the tires but also harsh road conditions and other factors.. regardless i think ill just go with some 205/75/15 general grabbers. Thanks _________________ LOVE splits more than Jean-Claude Van Damme |

Installed...
215/75R15 -- No rubbing so far. Tried full lock, speed bumps, pot holes, fast cornering with three guys across the front. It does look quite tight so we'll see if anything changes once it's got a bit more gear in it.
Running a 1600sp with a small nut trans. Haven't managed to get it up to any great speed so I can't say how they've affected top speed.

I had KM2 tires on my SC awhile back. I really liked them until they started to check up. Made the truck vibrate badly. I replaced them with stock sized Firestone bias plys. _________________ Lardy beaners like lowriders and Cerveza
