You guys may all know about the Race Taxi (full race split window) I came across this blog about their new venture. It looks like it will kick-ass.

No, they are not the same guys. Doesn't really matter though because I think what they are doing is super cool. I've had some conversations with the builders and they are really neat guys with a total passion for what they are doing. Cool stuff! _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Yeah, I'm not really sure how that came about. I thought they were using a different name for a while but seem to have changed back to "Race Taxi".
Here's their official "homepage":

I'm one of the guys building that car. Haven't had time to post much over here, but I'm following thesamba too.
The car started as a simple fun project of making a car that would surprise everyone at the race tracks in Finland. If building a T3, why not throw 6 seats in it? Everything has become a bit more complex, but it still feels like just renovating an old car compared to our previous projects. You really don't have to think much when disassembling and reassembling an old car. The first year we are doing what we think are minor modifications to get it track worthy, in next winter we will have time to go crazy and make trick lightweight parts everywhere.
A cool suggestion for a english name would be nice. Our previous name wasn't very rememberable, and people were referring to it as a race taxi all the time so we changed the name. Or can you guys pronounce "Ratataksi"? |

I was thinking it would be cool to build an autocross super beetle to mess around with, but now we are a family of 5. This thing is definately the answer. Cool.

I like the "RaceBox" even though "Screw Loose Racing" would suite the team better.
BTW i'am also one of the builders.
Thanks for those kind words.

We just decided the date for the first event for our car, and it will be a ice track day on 16th February. Still much to be done, but nothing impossible.
I just updated the gallery, and the ve'we been putting new entries in the blog twice a week. Enjoy! |

We began making the roll cage for the car. The subaru engine mount is also together.
A pic of the cage at this stage. It was easy to bend once we filled it with water and left it outside for a day.
The lateral roll bar fits so well that you can even show pics of it.
The molten ice...
The assembled engine mount. This is not final, it still needs to be tidied and welded in places where you can't reach because the engine is mounted.
More about it on our blog http://racetaxi.blogspot.com
I also updated our website's picture gallery. |
