I read about doing this on a later model fuel pump "40hp". Does this need to be done for the 36hp fuel pump? If so does anyone know how much the 36hp pump need to be pre-loaded?

FYI check the pump plunger rod for proper length also.
You might consider purchasing the proper bentley manual for your car, it would really help a lot instead of flying blind and maybe making some serious mistakes when you work on the car.

That is the setup I was looking at. This will work fine for my other fuel pumps, but what about 36hp's? Does anybody have a picture of the real tool? It the 14mm pin is sqiare or round on the end, this can change the pre-set distance?

Thanks Everett. The Gage for the 36hp looks to be longer than the verticle pumps? Is there a gage length for the 36hp? It looks to be longer than 14mm?

I am making a gaging fixture for setting the diaphram. I have modeled the later model "upright" setup. I want to build the prload setup for the 36hp on the same fixture plate. This setup seems like it would be better if I put it on a 90 degree plate. This will allow the pump to stand up and not lay down? I also notice that in the pics of the rebuild I may need to use longer studs to be able to move the housing around to assemble the diaphram?
