EDIT: thanks johann for the info, but i looked further just now, and its the damn valve...oh well, its 20 years old!

Heater hoses are 3/4" from the engine to the T under the back seat and forward. The port of the end of the head is 1". I think the lines that tee to the rear heat exchanger may be 5/8"
