People have commented on how their busses were called Beetles forever. Here's a decal from the mid 60's a friend gave me today from Virginia. I've never really been a fan of this type artwork but it's got it's place. I doubt it is Roth but everyone did stuff like this back then. It's like excitement on adrenalin. I guess the guy inside is a beetle so it's not like a misname but I still don't get the fixation with "Beetle Bus!".

Thats right about this part of TN. I have had about 10 people come over and check out the bus and everyone has called it a bug or a beetle van. Laughing Actually manny is the only person that actually called it a bus.

This woman dropped off a 74 super at our shop yesterday for us to look at some wiring issues...

She saw my bus and said " Old hippie van!"
I walked away........

She said " Im suprised you dont fix that one up."
I replied, " It IS fixed up..."

Then she says, " No, I mean fix it up like a flower child."
Again..... I walked away. Rolling Eyes

I think "VW" became synonymous with "beetle", so saying "beetle bus" is like saying "VW bus". right?

So, why don't you fix it up like a flower child? Wink
I am sure her '74 was all flower child, wasn't it?
If it wasn't, you should have asked her why, since she liked the idea so much.

Funny how people want you to do things they won't do. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I mostly get "thing". As in, "how old is that thing?" or "where'd you get that thing?" or "what is that thing?"

Whatever.
Everybody and their brother used to cut out the wheelwells and put huge ass 12 ply airplane tires on the rear. Most were small nut to boot.

BTW, that is a original Big Daddy Roth Sticker! One of my Dad's flight students was a partner and distributor for Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and that is one of his stickers. I have a whole bunch of them that I have kept since the early 60's and I picked up a few more off of Ebay recently. The irony is that some them still had the Ed Cholakian Auto Parts stamp on the back. That was my Dad's student, and he is now the largest Vintage Cadillac Parts dealer in the U.S., based now out of Vegas, before out of Burbank, CA. Here is a pic of Ed with me and lil bro, circa '64 or '65

Zounds. Thanks for that info. I thought it looked "Ratfinkesque". I just assumed Ed would have put "Roth" somewhere but I guess that was too soon for that stuff. Nice classic vintage photo!

Barry, that sticker should have a stamp on the back.

Here are a few that I could put my hands on this morning. I gave a few to my old club last year as raffle prizes. The one that is upside down is the beetlebus sticker.

Nope, nothing on the back but an old decal backing, yellowy, no faded print, not even worth a pic.

I'm confused; there were two Eds, Big Daddy and Ed Cholakian right? That pic is of the Ed that is still alive, the Vegas Ed?
