I pick up my Thing tomorrow. I assume there's a VIN sticker in the doorjamb, but where's the stamped VIN at?

1- - Under the back seat, on the "tunnel"
2- - Under the hood on a riveted on tag

Is there a breakdown anywhere that tells what each digit of the vin code represents? Any link would be helpful. thanks

It's not that complicated. That said, I can only give you a partial answer. Embarassed

Starting with:
183 = 181 built in 1973
184 = 181 built in 1974

The 4th digit:
I don't know.

Last 6 digits:
Serial number of vehicle

Besides those two places there is also an original sticker on the inside door post between the front drivers and rear drivers side doors with the vin #.
