More bleeding? |
Air in the system will result in pedal getting higher and higher the more times you pump it. Then when you let off the pedal for more than a few seconds, the pedal the next time you push down on it, will be again be at same low spot. Plus the pedal will have a squishy feel to it.
With properly bled brake system you should notice the slightest increase between the first and second pump, but after that should be same height pedal. Slight change is due to the flex lines swelling a tiny amount with the increased pressure inside. Pedal will have a rock hard feel to it.
Which of the above describes your situation? |
Sounds like the first one... Air in the system. Thats what I figured. Time to build a pressure bleeder.
Yes, all the blakes are adjusted, (all 4 corners are disks) |

Helps to not pound on the pedal which can cause smaller harder to bleed air bubbles. With dual MC you should bleed the front axle first. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Hi guys, I have a 65 Baja that I just put new wheel cylinders and pads on. I went to bleed the brakes, but with all the bleeder valves closed, I can't seem to "build pressure" without pulling the parking brake. Any thoughts? I am using DOT 3.
Thanks! _________________ I am a rock climber, not very mechanical...

Honestly I don't know. How can I tell? I have not had to mess with a master brake cylinder before.
I can build pressure with the E brake pulled if that answers that question at all. _________________ I am a rock climber, not very mechanical...

Single circuit has one single hose from brake fluid reservoir to top of the master cylinder.
Dual circuit has two hoses..... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

It is single circuit, no leaks in the system. _________________ I am a rock climber, not very mechanical...

Did you adjust the brake shoes for a bit of drag from each? _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Are you first bleeding the wheel on rear axle farthest away from the MC? _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

When the E-brake is pulled, that's like manually moving the rear brake shoes (you don't have pads) closer to the drums. So that indicates to me that you do NOT have the brakes adjusted tight enough or correctly enough. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. It turned out I had a bleed valve a little open I didn't know about... Facepalm... _________________ I am a rock climber, not very mechanical...

I'm just trying to flush the lines... Do the shoes need to be adjusted for this. Wasn't planning on de-airing just yet. Just want to get fresh fluid into the system. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

If you want to push out fluid, you do not want to be wasting your effort moving back and forth the brake wheel pistons and shoes instead. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I don't follow... I thought gravity would simply move the fluid, but even pressing the brake pedal doesn't get the fluid moving. I have a reservoir on top of my dual circuit MC. So I thought jacking up the front would help getting the fluid to the rear... But no joy. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Does anyone know of a repair shop that will rebuild a 1967 bug master cylinder.
Thanks Art |
