I got NOS Ontario plates for my recently purchased Bug:

Only to realize that the car lost it's character when the original CA plates were not on it. So I run with the original CA plates and have the YOM ON ones in the car in case I 'need' them Smile

The original owner kept the 1970 validation sticker on the original plate - that is about as authentic as you can get. How could I take these plates off the car when they are the only plates it has EVER had?

Supposedly this tag was never issued. When I got it, it showed no sign of fastener marks, so that claim may be legit. Whatever, I got it for all of 3.75 and I'm happy to have it.

Ohio YOM plates for 1971: Yellow with BLACK lettering and "71 Ohio"

Ohio DUI plates: Yellow with RED lettering

I can't find photos at the moment but will try to soon. A few times going to shows or to get gas it's been a bit annoying because the bored local police in the boonies like to follow me for awhile. They don't in my buses with other plates.

Given some recent chat about YOM tags, I thought I'd revive this old thread. Cool to see folks' YOM tags! And discuss all things YOM tag related.

I finally got the tag back for my '66 and it DIDN'T have the stickers pre-applied to the damn tag this time Dancing . After getting so many back that way from the state DMV after their "authentication" process, I put post-its in each corner, "Do not affix decal, please." I guess they got the idea (or I just got lucky.) Now, I just need to configure some kind of little tab for the registration sticker. Love running YOM plates Cool !

This was a really cool find back in the day. When I bought my '65 bug and pulled it out of the barn it was being stored in for 20+ years, I found this tag behind the rear seat on the parcel shelf. It was the original license plate. I sent it to the DMV and had it authenticated and re-registered to the car. So the car has the original license plate that it originally wore from day one.

YOM plates are the best.

California supplies stamped tag holders but they only fit a single tag so two holders would need to be attached to hold the month and year stickers. I opted to simply take some brown-anodized sheet aluminum I had at hand and cut it to just the size of the two tags. The net result is a lot more discrete than the supplied mounts, which are much larger than the tags themselves.

After my tags (2) were stolen twice I quit using them and just put my stickers on like a regular plate. 12 years now with no issues.

Wow, that sucks - I never thought about that. Guess I have to make it more challenging to remove. Somehow. Run straight current to the plate, maybe Twisted Evil
