It was a easy trip.
As a reply to my e-mail I got this:
Dear Mr. Veskovic,
Thank you for your e-mail to our collegue Mrs. Fendler.
To research the data of your old Volkswagen vehicle at the data base we need only the chassis number of your car and not the body number.
We researched the data of your vehicle with the chassis number 1 - 0 120 436 and give you in advanced by this e-mail the archived data:
model
11 Sedan
produced on
9 September 1949
delivered on
13 September 1949
delivered to
Volkswagen dealer Islinger, Mannheim/Germany
colour
primed
body number
69 543
Because of data protection we are not allowed to inform you about the original engine number. However, we are able to proof if the engine number 1 - 0 151 550 correspond to the chassis number 1 - 0 120 436. We can confirm this.
Do you want with these data the official vehicle identity certificate for € 35?
Ok I confirmed that I want and sent my cc details and 7 days later I got it.
But this is interesting model 11 sedan, back in 49 there was no standard and de luxe just one model - standard? and color primed? what? i am confused _________________ Oval 1954

As far as im aware, exports kicked really off in mid 49, so there were as many (?) deluxes as well as the standard.
It is a good find though, i was really dissapointed when i found out my car was a 1949 standard and not a deluxe. But now im fammilar with these old cars im aware how special the standard is, I think is certainly more sought after, simpley because there are less of them
do you have the matching body? it seems silly that they only require the chassis nunber and not the body also. i know this is how their records work but from todays point of view the body number is just as important. e.g its all very well having a certificate for a 43' chassis but what if the body could be from a 50' of something. the certificate is then in my opinion worthless.
funny how your paint is recorded as 'primer', do you know the original colour? My birth certificate gives the colour L51 bordeaux rot, which ive been told is a very rare colour for a 49 standard?
anyway nice to hear of a fellow 49 standard. all the best |

Hi there,
just for your information: I know at least one other still existing car which was delivered from the factory with primer (primed) only. This car is also a fall 49 one. The number is 1-0118869, Sept. 3rd 49. It is also indicated in Pidolls book.
It seems that Volkwagen also delivered cars without final paint, e.g. for allowing the buyer to paint these cars in special colors of a company or so.
Just for your information.
All the best for 2008!

Mine came for the car shown by my name. The car has been in my family from purchase in 1963. Mine states that it was shipped to Cloumbus USA? It was purchased new at Wes Behel VW Sunnyvale CA. It has 2 M-codes that cannot be identified. M-079 - M 358 My car came with the derby pull out? Has the stale air heat and the wolfsburg crest still. Was there a shipping point that they were shipped to in Cloumbus USA. I would think San francisco should have been the port of entry? It is still cool! You know when your car was born. I give mine NOS parts for it's Birthday. DL |

It may have changed by 1963, but in 1960 M079 was:
M79 - With silver beige leatherette for black, ruby, gulf blue and pearl white finishes - from the 8/1960 M Option Catalog. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )
