Is it true that the transmission mount is 20 times mroe expensive than a motor mount, for a 2.1? I was thinking about getting in there and replacing the mounts to dampen the engine vibration a little, and was really surprised that the trans mount was so expensive- I think 180 was the cheapest I saw, at Bus Depot. Why the huge discrepancy in price? Is the mount damper material made of something extra special? Or just no aftermarket parts available yet? |

It is filled with an exotic grade of Unobtainium Rubber, only harvested by female Amazon pygmies who will not cut trees on any of the three-hundred thirty three festival days they celebrate every year. The capitalist bug just hasn't bitten down there. Hence, mucho espensivo, hombre.
If it doesn't show visible cracking or separation of the rubber from the outer frame or center bushing, it's probably still quite serviceable. Sometimes just loosening the bolts that hold it to the chassis a bit, and running the engine a moment, will cause it to shift into a more favorable position. Don't forget to retighten!
For dampening vibrations, the rear mounts are more likely to improve things. They often separate from their frames, but it's hard to see the damage while they're installed. Luckily, all 4 are not too expensive, about $60 ought to do it, and not too tough a job to change out. _________________ Shop for unique Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

Thanks New Mexico contingency. I will first try loosening the mount and giving it a wiggle, and I ordered the other set. 10c, I accidentally spit coffee on my keyboard when I read that. A lot of scooter parts I have been tracking down are actully made of the same material, unobtanium, but the crafting of said parts has since been outsourced to Atlantis. |
