Last week my friend Ian dropped off the '74 Fleetline that he had bought out of Brazil. Pretty straight bus. He wants me to go through it and get it roadworthy so he can start driving it. Has a few interesting features.
Pressed in front emblem
I think these latches are similar to barndoor
9 passenger Kombi
Different steeringwheel and TS switch, early headlite buckets
1500 singleport. Has the smaller 12v generator I believe found on some 356 and 912's
access to fuel gauge sender
No heat
All in all a pretty decent bus. Nothing has been butchered or changed like you see/hear about bus from South America. Owner has a few plans for it, but will keep it fairly original. _________________ 1970 Lotus White Panel

that is great! the access to the top of the tank would be a Godsend! looks to be in VG shape. Was it a taxi? how did he get it here legally or should i not even ask? |
Getting it here wasn't much trouble. He got it from somebody that advertises on the samba. He had it shipped to New Orleans and it had no problems going through customs. Don't believe it was a Taxi, supposedly came from rural farm owner. Previous owner rivetted some deluxe trim to the rain gutters. _________________ 1970 Lotus White Panel

Wow...the NO HEAT option is pretty cool.
No dash vents, no outlets in the front tube under the dash...they did some weird stuff.
Actually, alot of the sheetmetal is stamped different too..backs of the headlight buckets..door panels, hmmm...
Thats thing looks solid. What year was it made?-- The ultimate pissing contest would be who could identify year to year changes in fleetlines best! From what I've seen it's nearly totally random, true entropy!. _________________

Every VW I have ever owned came with that option!
Cool bus man! Those Brazillian busses are nuts. That Fuel sender plate is awesome too! _________________ • Metal Fab & Quality Suspensions, Type I-II-III. Since 2004 • |

Strictly, the term Fleetline applies only to the Brazilian split buses assembled in South Africa in 1974 (one year only). These are easy to differentiate because they are right-hand drive.
Fleetline was the name given to them by VWSA to differentiate the budget Brazilian models from the German-made baywindow buses being assembled by VWSA at the same time. _________________ fig

Thats info I'll pass along to the new owner. He came by tonite and dropped off a box full of new parts/rubber. This weekend I'll start pulling it apart. All the window rubber in it now looks like it was cut from a roll. Theres a 1/4 inch gap in every window, some at the top. _________________ 1970 Lotus White Panel
