Please tell me you are getting rid of that peashooter bug exhaust and putting on a real bus muffler?
The bus muffler exits to the rear corner into the slipstream.
No matter how good you think the rear hatch seal seals, the vortex in the back of a bus makes the carbon monoxide enter the bus. |

did you manage to paint that with the headlights, door handles and windshield in place?
If so you did a very good job masking. _________________ ..........

no maaco crap!
i did most of the prep work, dent pulling, couple filler spots here and there. a friend of mine is a painter at a body shop in town here and we traded time... i installed a turbo kit in his mitsubishi for trade that he would paint my bus and waive the labor costs. we used ppc paint i believe. no cheap crap. cost me $550.
we did a base coat clear coat. 4 coats of red, 2 coats of clear
if i went into the shop as a customer, it would have been about $3500-4500 for what we did...
we worked on it saturday from 12:30 in the afternoon until 2am sunday morning

Well, I based the paint job off of the buses where the roof was left white above the drip rails like the pic below. my main inspiration though was when i was a little kid, my uncle had an old van that he had parked behind his barn. it was red with a white roof just like this. he owned a shop called VW Man on Hennepin Ave in Minnepolis, MN but passed away a couple years ago due to health problems. It was sudden but, this bus in in memory of him.

Yeah, I wondered.
He gave my bus a pre roadtrip once over back in '98 when I bought it.
he said " She's a nice ship."
Nice red bus BTW _________________ Ritterlich im Kriege, wachsam für den Frieden |

How do you feel about the Monza exhaust? I'd say that exhaust would put the CO back in the bus as well. My exhaust exits to the right just below the bumper. |

I have a monza-style exhaust on my '70. So far so good, but, I don't think it's a high performance exhaust. I told the people from JCS (the folks I bought my motor from), that I had already purchesed this type of exhaust. The shop manager didn't have many nice things to say about it at all. It was just right for my budget though, having spent all my cabbage on the paint job. On another note: I had to waller the hole on the engine tin, on the driver's side, to install the fresh air hose. I damn sure wasn't happy w/that. I found no other way, b/c the rear exhaust pipe was pretty much directly in the way. To get back to your question, my defrost vents are still throwing chunks of acorns out of them. I really can't smell any fumes. I just hope the squirrel is gone. |
