Ya right... to back that up.... please post a picture of you wearing the hat with some sunglasses on... touching a voltage regulator or something. Cool

Very cool! Got one of those hats and did not know that they were that early. It might have come out of the Buffalo NY dealership that was closed about 1960 due to conflict between dealership owner and VOA. Bill D. bought out the entire contents back in the early 1990s.

Was that the Jim Kelly dealership?

Do not know the name of the dealership, just the location.

I've got one of those hats in NOS condition too in my collection. I'm afraid to put it together and try it on!

Hi!
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Iīve restored my governor in a 1500SP engine. the K screw is not tight to keep the intake clap as open as possible. I donīt know if itīs right.

So, at slow motion (no foot in the pedal) the RPM arenīt stable. It goes up and down (800-100-800-...) all the time.

Does anybody have the same problem? Is it right? Vac leak maybe?
It has no seal or loctitte in the front top, is it right?

Iīve read the hole thread and thereīs a great info here. Congrats!!

Thank you very much!!

Hi back attcha, Smile Welcome to The Samba! the picture on the left doesn't look right. the tension spring does not appear to be attached to anything. It does sound like you have a vacuum leak. Try sealing the cover to the housing as originally done.

Two lefts do not make a right! Laughing Think second sentence should be "right" instead of left.

If you increase the tension on the top main spring the butterfly (flapper) will not close as quickly. There's also and adjustment screw missing from the bottom that will keep the arm from coming down fully. Sounds like you are trying to install the governor but not have it do any work? That's common now a days and better than just curtting/removing the butterfly which destroys the governor.

Go ahead, there's nothing that can be hurt by a brief dunk. Make sure you relubricate, of course. It's good practice to reseal the cover too, so that its air tight.

any reason

It looks too clean to dip in the gnarly cleaner stuff. One reason not to dip it would be that there is a permanently sealed chamber with the piston in it that can get its seal eaten by the cleaner.

I was wondering if there is a seal in there too.
A seal could get damaged by carb. cleaner
I think it might only be a metal cylinder?

So no gasket where it has the body rivets?

Anyway I bet it would be hard to get the icky carb-dip out if it got in the chamber.

I think I'll just put the cover back on and scrub it by hand. Thanks for everyone's input. byron

I don't see anything there on the ones I looked at.
I have one that has the cap loose, here's what it looks like with the cap removed:

It's had the entire valve removed too
