My Dad bought one of these Meharis out of a junkyard for 50 bucks but the engine was a boat anchor and it was missing a lot of the basic parts. I heard there were a few of them in my old stomping grounds due to the fact that people used them as a beach buggy. My Dad when he was alive always found the most whacked out autos to buy.

the body on those things was fiberglass and the one my Dad found was as brittle as fuck. Probably from sitting on the roof of a trailer in the junkyard he had found it at for 20+ years. I'll keep using the Hon-duh as the booze hauler for now. I had 33 cases in there last Sunday!

My brother and I had one of those when we were kids (along with an opel and renault). You can whip them around the corner at full speed and it won't even turtle - we tried.
The car's body can go around 45 degrees over either way without any wheel coming off the ground.

Hey coW, here's a trigonometry problem for you:

The track of a 2CV is 1.26 meters; how much suspension travel would it have to have for that statement to be true?

(Sorry - missed this post when you first posted it)

I have no idea.
It wasn't like I measured the angle or anything but am going by how violent my head would hit the passenger window. It certainly felt like 45 degrees but clearly suspension doesn't extend over a meter.
The suspension on the deux cheveux is quite flexible, is what I do know.

Aww, you're no fun. Laughing

I know it was just a little exaggeration, which doesn't detract from the point you were making. But you're generally pretty careful about what you post, so I just had to jump at the rare chance to call you out.

Well, right now, in addition to my 181, I own

2x DS21 sedans
1 x DS21 4-door convertible, one of eight made
2 x 2CV cars
1 x 2CV truckette
1 x Citroen Traction Avant sedan
1 x Citroen Traction Avant nine-passenger limo.

and twelve spare engines.

That doesn't include the Mercedes or the Borgwards.

i used to own Citroens, the latest being a XM 2 litre turbo, and before that one 2 XM 2.1 litre diesel and 3 BX one of them being a first year with all its Citroen quirks intact. I've yet to own really old citroens, my uncle living not far away got me covered with his two Citroen SMs. I will bid on one if he ever decides to sell.

As far as Citroen that i got on my wish list/must own once list is ;

1.an old 2cv with the funky sheet metal, the HY, ID, Traction Avant
(needless to say they all need to be lowered, the Avant on big chrome wheels Very Happy)

I think that the timing chain broke on our 1971 DS21
the steering got stiff and all the dash idiot lights came on engine died
it spins over but no valve action.

I don't have a repair manual or even a blow up of the engine to see if it has a chain or not
the chain would have to be next to the firewall and looks like there is no room to work.

Is there a Bentley style repair manual for these engines or any good Citroen sites?
cheers
hank

Now you don't have to decide between your 2 loves.... , be "born that way", and go both ways. Very Happy . Laughing.
