Hello,
I haven't been on Samba for some time. My loss Embarassed

I had been doodling with other cars, but since having several bugs in my younger days, I recently bought a 1959.

As it happens, I went to a junkyard to find parts for the '59 (a front clip) and wow
a 1954-ish beetle vert pops out and begs to be saved.

At least I think it is a '54. It has oval dash, large rectangle gas tank, has top bows and latches, missing a lot of parts like tailights, headlights, decklid, one seat, transmission, etc., but usually on the east coast any early beetle is difficult to find so I'll have to grab this one. May be just good for parts though.

I am probably going to trade for the car, however I have a funny question to ask.

The car has a semiphore on the left side , but no sign of one on the right....no semiphore hole or anything. Just flat metal.
There is paint/surface rust where one should be on the right, and no bondo filler.

Was there any beast ever made like this?
I doubt it.... what do you think?? Stephen

probably wrecked on the right side, and a new panel put in long ago.
or you may do some searching and find a sema under there, bondo'd over. get that car no matter what. Smile

Most of the time, they were leaded over, not bondo'ed. Once side was probably opened up at one point, and not the other. If the car was hit on the one side, thats another explanation.

How do you post pics?

Can anybody say train-wreck?

Actually, the whole right side is crushed in, the door bottoms are eaten out,

Crying or Very sad
It is in worse condition than I thought, however a few good parts remain.
I even found a nice unclouded rear window glass and frame laying under the leaves behind the back seat.

If anyone is looking for parts, I may part out in a month.

Can't get it now as I have to sell some of his cars to get it.
A comission thing I guess.....

I'll take the whole car and roll it like it is. I'm sure with a front end alignment it will roll straight....

with the scarcity of real old verts, 20 years from now, somebody will look at those pics and say it we were wrong for not saving it.
