No ideas on the VDO gauges??

If the VDO gauges you are referring to are anything like the stock VDO console gauges in the Cabriolets, they are not direct plug-n-play replacements. Skip to page 4 of this DIY guide: http://www.cabby-info.com/Files/InstallingLEDs.pdf and you'll see how to adapt them to fit.

Thanks a lot! Exactly what I was looking for. Now if it will just cool down outside, I might finally be able to work on this!

I do change to LED's as soon as possible in the dashboard, I've made it in a few buses now. But I don't buy any special items, I go to my closest electronics store and buy normal wide lit 4700 Kelvin diodes for a few penny's each. I think each replacement is about a dollar.

I don't think this has been mentioned, but so does Van Cafe. I love them. Accidentally blowing out all of the original cluster lights was the best thing that's happened to the cluster.

I just got some instrument panel LEDs from Super Bright and couldn't get them to work. Seems I need to change bases (I'll get back to you).

Did you reverse them 180 degrees from initial installation?

color me lazy, but i just installed those yesterday. i was browsing, saw them, and hit 'order'. i've installed the dash [blue] and the enviro controls [also blue] - the enviro controls look awesome and are a match to my stereo. The dash Blue is /slightly/ different. not sure why - or if its just yellowing lenses in the dash, but it's /slightly/ more cyan. I love it, but wish it was a /perfect/ match. i was going to ask gowesty about it.

kit was easy to install - also ordered lights for my automatic shifter [white] but haven't put them in yet.

it was definitely more expensive than buying them yourself and modifying or whatever people are doing here - but for the extra bucks it was worht the fact that i didnt have to do research for it. only mistake i made was the LCD - after reading this , i do agree blue makes it hard to read. I'll see if GW will sell me ONE for that in white.

All in all, good upgrade - making my car look newer. reminds me of some GTI's i had in the late 90s early 00's with the blur/red lighted interiors.
cheers!!

Here's a shot of the new green map and glove box LEDs. The green really pops with the
blue in the cab.

I have replaced every light in the cab and Dash plus all of the controls. It is simple to do and just takes time. About an afternoon of fun Cool Once you do the full thing it really makes the Vanagon feel like a modern car at night. Your eyes will thank you Shocked

I put in LED lights in the headlight and rear defogger switches today. Syncrodoka did a great write up earlier in this thread about the headlight switch, I didn't do it quite like he did, I did not have the little metal tabs to hold a bulb and I wired it so that the switch would light up when the ign key is turned on (that seemed to make more sense to me).

I had a 1980 Diesel Passat in Belgium during the '80s. The switches were similar, but with the rounded edges. The light on the headlight switch did, in fact, light up when the lights were off, and the ignition was on. Made it easy to find the lights to turn them on in the dark. I cannot remember if it went off when the lights were on, but I am 100% sure that it was on with the lights off.

Although the topic has been skirted, I'm quite surprised that nobody has thoroughly covered the LED conversion in the rear defroster switch. This takes a bit of soldering and electrical experience. Since the switch has two small lights in it that are soldered in place. I added a 5mm. LED which is approximately 1mm. too wide for proper fit without trimming the mount. It's taller than the bulb but that doesn't matter. I trimmed away part of the plastic bulb mount and soldered the LED and a 470 ohm resistor in place. I found it quite unnecessary to replace both bulbs with LEDs since the single one illuminates the indicator quite well when the switch is on. (it overrides the incandescent bulb). I haven't taken a photo of the switch mounted in place and illuminated but can assure everyone that it is more than satisfactory. I have, however taken a (somewhat blurred) photo of the LED and resistor soldered in place within the switch.

What's up with the floor lighting up front? I like that. Easy modification?

Man, if you could post a list of which lights and maybe some pictures of the lights at night I would owe you one.

LED pods tied into the dome light switch on the door. Check out a local flaps, to see if they carry
something like them. As always put in an inline fuse to protect the LED's.

I got a set of red ones with my guage mod from www.meisterguagefaces.com..

The lady wanted blue.. so I had to pull em and got the Gowesty blue ones. Also got matching shifter, and HVAC leds, pretty good prices, nice product!

Meister does up a keen guage graphic, perfect update if you're led'ing! He can do, whatever your heart is set on..

I went with a updated RPM graphic, and Carbon fiber, updated font/numbering,
