Do you know if it is possible to convert the air cooled system of a 1982 to a liquid cooled one? How troublesome is it and how expensive? Also, is it feasible to replace the 1982 engine with a subaru outback or jetta engine without a lot of conversion problems, like you can with the 1983.5 and newer engines(with the kits)?

This is the me again (the one that posted the question). I wanted to clarify. Is it feasible to take a 1982 aircooled vanagon and replace the 2.1 liquid cooled engine (the kind that is in a 1984 or newer vanagon)?
