Both my heater exchange boxes are either broken or cracked right up where they bolt to the exhaust ports on the heads, about 2 inches down the from the top of the exhaust pipe, around the circumference of the pipe. Can these be welded or otherwise repaired? I'm afraid that even if they can be welded, they might twist during the welding process and not line up right when I try to bolt them back up.Thanks

It may help to know what year/engine your bus is.
68-71 used bug style heater boxes. The exhaust pipes are steel and weld-able.
72-74 and 79 Fed heater boxes are also weld-able but you should bolt them to a spare head before trying to weld them.
75-78 heater boxes are separate units from the exhaust manifolds and the U pipes. Both the U pipes and manifolds are stainless steel and not 100% weld-able. Sure, people glob beads on them but they are not fixed! The flanges are steel.
79 Cal uses a stainless exhaust manifold on the left and a 79 Fed heater box on the right.

Sorry, and thanks for the tip. The engine is a 1972 type 4 1700cc from a Westy bus.
