But maybe a previous owner had a 7-year itch, went to the local dealer, and bought a strip kit straight from the parts dept. Common occurrence that still happens at dealerships today.

I worked at two vw dealer ships in the early 70s. in 1965 vw offerd a formula vee stripe kit .it had two big letters F V the kit had a big FV and you put 1200 or 1300 or 1500 on the stripe. it looked like this FV 1500. they offerd 6 volt fan faire horns for the 1965 and 1966 bugs . vw then in 1967 offerd 12 volt set of fan fair horns. in 1968 the formula vee stripe kits said formula vee. in 1968 vw realy got into the formula vee kits .vw offerd a lot of formula vee parts . like wood steering wheels. tack. bumper guards fan fair horns. wood dash. hood scoop. formula vee mag wheels with over size fat tires and exhaust tips . it was up to the person buying his car what he wanted on it. a lot of vw bugs just had the formula stripe kit .my self I had a 1967 and 1968 and 1970 and 1971 formula vee bugs. I bought a new bug every 2 years back in the 1960s and 1970s ...1973 was kind of the last year for the formula vee bugs they did offer in 1973 a new type of mag wheels but they did not sell well. no one liked the looks of them .the sports bug took over where the formula vee bugs left off . . vw stoped making the formula vee parts 1973.. so in 1974 75 76 77 only left over formula vee parts were used .till vw dealers were out of them and they could not reoder fvee parts . just my take on the formula vee bugs they also made formula vee kitsfor the type 3s spencerfvee.

hi I just restored a formula vee header. that was sold by vw in 1970 to 1971 for the formula vee it was part of the formula vee kit . it was made by cyclone . you could have the header with dual mufflers or single muffler . see pictures. I have both mufflers the dual muffler is NOS the header is used so is the single muffler its going on my formula vee bug these headers are getting hard to find and over looked by guys with formula vee bugs spencerfvee chicagovw"]I remember as a kid seeing a few VW's around with the "Formula Vee" striping just above the running boards. I've been looking around for Formula Vee stuff for my '73 Super-managed to locate a shifter, shift knob, stripe kit, clock, and single speaker that mounts to the rear firewll.
Was the Formula Vee a package option? Or just a name VW came up with for its individual accessories? Anyone know where I can find a complete list of items that were available back then (I've already found the VW accessories brocure in the Archives).[/quote][i

I just acquired a 73 vw beetle formula vee. Not having any idea what the formula vee meant. It is a little rough and not running. I am excited this has a special package and I plan now to restore the car. Any extra info I can get on the car would be great. I'll get the image uploaded. My car was featured on some curbside classics site. I need to go over the car and see what it has and what was robbed off. I does have the bumper horns and wood dash. Lance.

Is the tachometer easy to find? What would I expect to pay for one of these? I didn't see any in the classified ads.
Thanks!

Sorry to res an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is someplace that makes new formula vee decal kits and facia pieces. I am having a ton of trouble sourcing one of those front lips and I kinda love how tacky the rear fast back style window cover is.

Beautiful! I'd love to have your problem. Wood knob inserts roll around in crates at every VW swap meet over here- but I've never seen a red parcel tray in the flesh!

Those aren't a Formula V - This is

My dad was one of the top Formula V builders in this part of the country. I was a very young pup, and he spent almost every night in the garage. In fact it was one of the cars that he built for a friend (no name dropping), that caught Porsches eye. Maybe I lost some childhood time with my dad, but how many of you can say that you did 185mph (guestamite), in a Porsche 935, sitting on an aluminum floor, with the only thing to hang on to was passenger door framing. I thought I was going to die, multiple times, but loved it every minute Twisted Evil .

Unfortunately I live on the other side of the atlantic Ocean. The Formula Vee stuff is quiet rare in Germany. If you find some, I would be glad to get them. Laughing

Yes, the red parcel tray I only saw one other in 30 years of collecting VW accessoires. Thanks, you like It.
