Hey that is one slick yellow Thing! I wouldn't mind parking that baby in my garage.

Nice photoshop work on the canvas top mod too, although I'd rather have the yellow Thing meself.

The factory for mexican production actually made a truck fiberglass hardtop very hard to find. After I sold my last 73 thing I saw one at swap meet NOS for only $450. I all most bought it for my next thing project because it is a rare piece

The Thing Shop used to sell those too, back in the day when it was called The Trim Shop. I have all the old catalogs from back then and there's a crude drawing of the top. I'll have to scan the image. It could be the same top on this Yellow Thing but it's hard to tell.

You are correct also another company called fiberjet? I believe sold them in the 80s and 90s but they were aftermarket and not NOS.

It looks well done. The extended tie-down area looks like it will recieve a bed taneau cover and still stay true for the "Thing" look.

Graft in the 73' vents and lose the earmuffs.

I have one of those tops. It looks more like the one in the drawing with the smaller window. When I bought my thing about five years ago it came loaded with parts, this top being one of them. I've kept it in the barn thinking I'd do something with it some day but was never able to find any information about it. What do you sappose it worth?

I really like the concept. One thought though, engine cooling. The side vents are gone and I didn't see any venting in the bed area. Maybe supplemented with a fan in engine compartment.

Is there a manufacturer of those conversion-kits? Or is this just a nice drawing made for a one-off?

This is an old catalog from The Trim Shop now called The Thing Shop. It was probably left over stock from VW of Mexico when they liquidated all remaining 181 stock. A few of these tops are around for sale. Demand for them? Cost when one comes up for sale? PM bug-nuts for his. It could be a rare item in Belgium.
