my buddy found a radio at the pomona swap meet and its made by becker, has 1 big button on the front that says "Monte Carlo" and has 2 knobs like a saphire. It is for a vw as it has a face plate. Ill post pics soon. Is it rare? |

THe Monte Carlo radios were at the lower end of the Becker radios, however, if it has the correct face to match the oval speaker grill, it is a rare find. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

I like those beckers, they are much rarer in a bug than a blaupunkt, so they look slightly different. If they have a nice face plate as well, then all the better. I reckon they also look a little classier than sapphires, and are the equivalent to those later telefunkens for an oval dash.

Probably like this if it has the big button:
I wish someone would reproduce the big buttons for Beckers and Blaupunkts. Most have jungle rot at this point, and it just kills the radio. |

A guy who looks after my radios told me once that he uses denture paste/ cleaner on the ivory knobs of his radios and they come up real nice. If that centre button is a bit discoloured maybe that might be worth a try! Thinking about it, the finish of a denture, and a bakelite ivory radio knob must be quite similar?

There was one lower model. Brescia. AM only. Frequently used with a short wave adaptor.
FYI: The radio in the picture has the universal front on it. White is pretty rare, though.
NOTE: I think they DO make some of the front trim related items, too. |

Yes, Becker did make fronts for VW's.

Yes it looks exactly like this but the faceplate is for a 58-62 |
