How to measure Bolt circle

the chart above Measures 5 lug wheel in the center of one stud to top of the furthest hole.

Here is another chart that shows another way, but the center of stud to furthest hole is the easiest method.

Thanks Thornton!

I have been trying to figure out the reference of 205 mm on those 5 wides for a couple days now... I kept getting out the caliper and tape and coming up with 194mm center to center (skipping one lug)

This really made my day. Finding a set of non-open rims for my 1970 bus has been confusing enough and not being able to even understand how the folks out there, that know these things, arrived at the measurement, was just more of the same.

You have provided a very valuable service with this posting.

Thank YOU!

Dave

1968 was the first year Type 1 had 4 lug. Not a dumb question.

Ironically, I just bought a 87 Vanagon Synchro and laid one wheel on top of a 71 Bus rim, and the holes do not line up. I don't have calipers, so I can't check it that way, but the Vanagon wheel bolt pattern seemed just a bit wider. ???

OK here are a few simple things to remember
A1 & A2 VW use 4 on 100 bolt circle. (1974 thru 1992 Golf,Jetta, Scirocco Dasher, Quantum, Fox)
Be careful Audis of this age used 4 on 108 bolt circle on some models, and others used 5 on 112 bolt circle.
A3 & B3/B4 use 4 on 100 EXCEPT VR6 cars use 5 x 100 (1993 thru 1997 Golf, Jetta, Cabriolet, Corrado, Passat)
A4 use 5 on 100 bolt circle (1998-2005) Golf, Jetta, New Beetle
B5/B5.5 use 5 on 112 bolt Circle (1998 - 2005) Passat and most Audi
A5 use 5 on 112 bolt circle (all VW's except new Beetle & Touareg)
71 & up Bus, Vanagon, and Eurovan all used 5 x 112 bolt circle.
Touareg use 5 x 130 bolt circle, New Beetles (2006 to 2010) are A4 chassis use 5 x 100 bolt circle.

Are all AC 5s, 'Wide Fives'? I just bought a bunch of wheels for my Manx and am scared that maybe I didn't know about 'narrow' fives.
