CAN YOU STILL TURN THE FLYWHEEL BY HAND ONCE YOU BOLT TOGETHER THE ENGINE AND TRANNY? THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS ONCE I INSTALLED THE ENGINE AND LINED UP THE BOLTS ON THE TRANNY AND TIGHTENED THEM I TRYED TO TURN THE FLYWHEEL BY HAND AND I COULD'NT PULLED IT OUT A LITTLE AND TURNED BY HAND AND WAS ABLE TO BUT IT WAS HARD AND IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS RUBBING... THIS IS MY FIRST INSTALL AND I DON'T WANT TO MISS ANYTHING UP.. THE ENGINE IS GREAT WAS BENCH TESTED RUNS GOOD. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE CONNECTION OF THE OF THE TRANNY TO THE ENGINE. OR IS IT?? IF YOU MIGHT KNOW OF THE PRBLEM PLEASE RESPOND.. THANKS GREG DR.Q PEACE

Yes, just put in neutral and use a wrench on either of the pulley nuts. Did you use a clutch alignment tool to ensure that the tranny input shaft lined up correctly to the clutch disk? Also, do you have the correct clutch release bearing? These two things come to mind and I've changed a few bus engines over the years. Good luck!

Yeah I was about to say if you can turn the flywheel by hand your engine is toasted!

Also, you might not have the right throwout bearing installed. your 70 should have NO guide collar installed on the input shaft of the trans. and the TO bearing should be the earlier type. A mismatch here can cause the engine to fight you to install, then you get to smoke a clutch on initial start up!! OW happened to me! Good luck!
