I'm looking into buying an '85 Vanagon. When it is idleing , the rpm will all of a sudden go up then after a few moments go back to normal. Any suggestions?
The engine has just had heads, bearing and rings replaced.

thanks

Surging like that is usally related to a glitch in the FI system, it could be as simple as a vacume hose loose or off or several of them... or hooked up to wrong fittings.... Also the FI system may need to be tweaked out as it may have been messed with alot before the major repair was done...

Check all the hoses and around the "big air boot" for cracks ect... good place to start.
