I'm going to get a '78 kombi with an automatic transmission soon. The Kombi runs fine, but when you put it in gear, it dies. Does anyone know what's happening?

LC is probably right... I had the same problem with my '77 Westy. I can't remember which manual (Haynes or Bentley) discusses this but you will want to adjust your idle both in Nuetral and in gear with the idle set just right in gear and a bit quicker in Neutral.

You will "feel" it when it is just right!

Good luck.
