Two adults, a 2 year old, a dog, everything but the kitchen sink for camping and a canoe. 500 miles round trip.

I drove it 12 reasonably flat country miles to the gravel quarry. I kept the truck in third gear, about 60-70kph or less. It stopped fine. I have an all stock drivetrain in good shape. I feathered the clutch a bit more than usual to reduce the impact at starts and took it pretty mellow on the way there. I had 3/4” plywood on top of the stock bed and had extra plywood and some metal shelves around the perimeter to protect the wood. I don’t think I damaged anything.

How well does it stop with that weight on board?

If anything I would think it’s slightly reduced. I expect the wood platform and gates weigh more than the stock setup.

That's one way to lower it.

I hauled 4320 pounds of concrete in my widebed singlecab yesterday.

Last week I had 7 other similar loads of concrete which weighed 2880#, 3400#, 3060#, #3280, #3460, 2580#, 2740#

Checking out the thread again- i could have sworn I saw a pic of someone carrying a full sized bridgeport in their SC but a lot of the photos are down :/

That would be way over the 1 ton weight limit for a single cab, almost twice.

Am I being obtuse when I ask, "What the heck is a bridgeport?"

Good question. It's a big milling machine for metal. Great for making parts.

Not my heaviest load but definitely the most fun.

Some day I want to build one of those. Might you have any detailed photos of yours? Is it an original or a reproduction?
