As we like to say, it's a wet miserable heat.

ITs amazing how different climate can be.

Im only 2 hours east of Dan on the same latitude and we get nothing like SYR cold and snow. Barely 1 meter per year on average.

Winter keeps the CA and FL money out of area which keeps it cheap for us. Thats why we put up with it. JetBlue can have in warmth in 60 minutes if I get bored of watching someone shovel it for me.

need for space- is that a wood stove pipe on your rear rack? if it is, would you mind posting pics of when it's all set up? thanks. If it's not a wood stove pipe, what is it?

It is a portable fireplace, a small fan blows air in from under. It is quick to get hot and also cold in no time when it is time to go to bed.

Significant snowfall early in the season is rare for us, so seeing falling leaves mixed in is pretty unusual. We're not done raking yet!

Yikes!
Get a tree strap.
Not trying to be a B hole but there are a lot of things wrong with your recovery set up there.
Ok, like three things.
1. No tree strap.
You may not think it at the time but that's really hard on a tree and can do permanent damage that the tree may not recover from.

2. Hooking the hook back on the cable.
This puts unbelievable stress on the cable and can lead to failure.

3. No cable weight.
Toss something with a little weight over the line so in the event that the cable or hook does fail the weight of said thing will drop the cable to the ground instead of whipping right back at the vehicle.
literally anything that will hang over the cable will work provided is weighs a couple of pounds.

Just google winch safety or even read the instructions that came with your winch and you will pick up the flaws in your procedure.

Little late on the uptake there. The pic is almost a year old!
Still, good advice though....
