In a few months our son will be getting his drivers license ( ). For the past 10 years I have been driving our Jeep Wrangler (that my wife HAD to have...but doesn't drive)..so, when our son gets his license and a J.O.B. he gets the Jeep. At that time I will need another car. Since I haven't had the chance to get something that I actually wanted, this is the opportunity, and I am looking for some feedback. I am looking for something small, a hatchback (5 door, or 3), and since I have my kombi to haul larger items, plus my wifes minivan, I do not need anything larger. The few models I am looking at are the Toyota Matrix, the Scion XD, Mazda A3, and the Saturn Astra. I have taken a Mini Cooper out, but for the price, the others are higher on my list. Does anyone have experiences with any of these models? _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

For an econo-box, I'd go with a Toyota Yaris or a Scion (Toyota) XA. Otherwise, I'd buy a new Tacoma or a Frontier. |

not sure on used or new. obviously buying new is pretty pointless on value dropping and there are quite a few places have previously owned (certified).
trucks are pretty much out of the question, i have never been a truck person. _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

we have a Mazda 3 Sport. I wouldnt call it powerfull, but it is kinda fun to drive.
Toyota Yaris is interesting, if you dont need more room, it can be a very good choice, especially with the price on gas right now.
another interesting car is the Volvo C30, but its kinda expensive compared to the others (starting around $28k) _________________ 1964 Turkis Flipseat |

Have you looked into Chevy's HHR? I just picked one up for the wife and we really like it so far. _________________ "I became an archaeologist because I wanted to drive around in a big Land Rover, smoking, cursing, and finding treasure." - Carmel Schrire

I would go for the Toyota Matrix, Toyota has the best reputation as far as I am concerned. Higher than blue-book resale, what more could you want? _________________

Subaru, hands down. Drive great, all wheel drive standard, power with fuel economy, low maintenance and easy to work on, great quality for the money.
Jeremy Clarkson recently declared it the best all around vehicle. _________________ 1972 westfalia: 1700cc, l-jet, bfg all-terrains; a constant work in progress

Toyota,Nissan, or Honda for me, and in that order.I base it on what we work on the least/most, the # of them in our customer base, and the tsb's we get.My next new car will be a Nissan, early this spring. |

when i turned 16 my parents bought me a 300.00 car and some tools.your son will appreciate his car more if its not handed to him.i was alot less likely to drive through fields and abuse the car if it was going to cost me money the next day.i still abused it but after the first 2 or 3 times and a bunch of money i learned to drive sensibly.plus when i did break the car i learned to fix it.....i have several friends that love their subarus and the all wheel drive is a nice feature............ |

i traded a 58 project for a car for my oldest daughter
when she turns 17 in a few more months she will prolly get it.
if she wants something else, she will have to save for it. _________________ Frank

I'd second the Mazda 3, but get the Mazda Speed 3. You'll get the most speed for the money _________________ Seebring Kit Car - (soon to be daily driver...soon being relative)
