Working on my 66 bug and noticed that both rear fenders are missing metal from rust where they bolt to the car. Should I replace this metal or replace the fenders ? Also a small area near the bottom of the fender. Anyone ever tackled this ? I could say at least three holes are missing from the fender. Thanx for any info.

I would replace , 66 fenders are readily available and don't cost too much

If you want to learn how to fix that, then yes i would fix them because original VW metal is a better fit than aftermarket. If you do not have the ability to fix them then i would track down some nice VW fenders in the classified.

For that small amount of cancer, I'd find someone to repair it. You know the fender's fit/finish matches the car.

As a side note, I have a good freind that is a custom metal fabricator but isn't an auto bodyman. I think if we can get the fenders off, he should be able to see what we need to do. The drivers side isn't as bad as the pass side. Thanx guys.

I'd be replacing with an original.

Before starting.. triple check all the death areas.. your car looks as if it will need tons and tons of time consuming work.

It's really not that bad. No rust on the pan itself and the rear fenders are pretty much the worst of it.
