hi
i am new to vdubs with injectors. my recent purchase,1975 transporter, will start with help from starter spray then sputter and die......i know fuel pump is getting fuel to the injector manifold...but what should i check now?? how do i know if injectors are bad........
i rebuilt the entire manifold because it had so many leaks,,,,this is how i know fuel pump is good, because under pressure the manifold looked like a lawn spinkler......

It could be about 50 things, but the most obvious and most critical to fuel injection is the good old vacuum leak. Your symptoms (start, sputter, die) sound exactly like a vacuum leak. The ingnition system must be in good working order and can generally be checked out and tweaked even if the bus isn't running yet. After confirming the ignition system is in good working order I would look for loose vacuum hoses and clamps. It's tough to find small vacuum leaks if you can't get the bus to run at all, but you should be able to find the larger ones. Check your manifold boots, the hoses going to the intake elbow, the brake line booster, etc. Also make certain the plug into your air flow meter isn't loose. If it is then the bus will start, run for a few seconds, and die. You mentioned rebuilding the manifold so it's possible you have a vacuum leak there. It's sometimes tough to get the throttle body to seal well against the air plenum/air distributor (the black part in the middle where your 4 intake runners attach). There are other things to look at, but these are where I would start. Good luck and let us know how it works.
