So I just returned from a 5-day ski trip to Park City, Utah. I brought my own skis, but some of the group needed to rent. Some locals recommended we go to Cole Sport so off we went. While the others got their equipment, I burned time browsing the store. Imagine my surprise when I found this '59/60 Single Cab used as part of the store's display!

I talked to an employee who told me it belonged to the store's owner and that they use it a lot in the summer to haul bikes, etc. The owner also had a nice restored Triumph TR3 in another display.

The employee told me the owner found it up in the PNW and drove it to Utah. Anyone recognize it?

I think that might be Dave Parkers old truck from years back. Someone should remember throwing Uozo's decals on the doors.

It was parked outside the last time I was there (march 07).

I remember something funky with the rear gate/engine lid. Had a cool 62 Words Fair sticker on it.

let's hope he doesn't start a trend ala Old Navy, where several hundred old Chevies have been put into stores - that would take way too many out of circulation, and probably drive prices up even more...

Years ago, there was a business in the Yuba City/Marysville area (northern California) that had a 1958 panel mounted on top of a tall pole(s). Eventually, someone here in Chico wound up with it. I looked at it when he was trying to sell it for $4000.

That windshield sticker is awesome. I can see both of the icons in it from my office windows. Smile

Just curious. Does Old Navy use the same model year for all its trucks?

That's the "Advanced Design" bodystyle. That style was produced from '47 - '54 with minor design changes. The 53 & 54 series had a completely different grill (ugly in my oppinion). They are still very popular and there a ton of that body style kicking around the fields, deserts and small towns in the boonies. There are still quite a few parts made for them and they are very collectable.

These trucks are the only way my girlfriend can get me to go in those stores. She checks out clothes, I check out the truck:wink:

I think they only use 49-53 trucks. The grill for a 54 is totally different, ugly. They just poof the trucks for display in the stores. The trucks don't look that nice, it is kind of sad. Someday they hopefully will get back into the hands of folks who will restore them.

Ive been in that store, i got to park city ever winter for skiing, im always like "we have to go to see the single cab".

I went to old navy, i hate what they're doing with the old Chevies, the totally gut then and put them on rollers, and the paint everything even over the speedo! Rolling Eyes but they do look nice, but it would be nice if they weren't shells. Evil or Very Mad

From what I've been told, the guy that has the contract for "building" those trucks for old navy is from my neck of the woods. I started seeing 50's chevies on trailers on a regular basis a few years ago. I then heard what they were being used for. I've asked around but haven't found out who it is yet.

Hopefully in a few years the store will decide to dump the marketing campaign and sell off the trucks. I can picture a thread on a chevy truck forum titled "removing navy blue paint to reveal OG paint"

I've always liked the early 50's chev trucks, but the 53-54 style grill is definately ugly.

You'd have to scrub really hard to get to OG paint on a Chevy, for sure.

From what I recently found, they're actually getting rid of the Chevies from Old Navy. (which as mentioned was the only interesting thing I could find in there while my wife was shopping)
Apparently they were done by Alan Brasington, http://www.brasington.com/
interesting info out there...

I lived in park city right before I moved to Vegas, He drove the bus around all summer, It was cool seeing it roll around town, I also talk to the employess at the shop about the bus, Ya the owner owns it, I have seen him drive it, and he didnt want to sell it.
