Is there a company that provides kits/parts to convert a regular VW van/bus into a camper? Pop-top? Interior cabinets, seats, etc? ... Is this do-able privately? Any comments would be appreciated.

I am in the middle of this right now, sort of. We are goinf from a small hole in the troof to the big opening for the late model westy upper bunk set up. If you would like to chat call me at 6195534702 it is not thta difficult and we got pop up in the junkyard for a hundred bucks.

It can be done, but it is not an easy project by any means. Check out Greg Potts Westfakia site http://www.pottsfamily.ca/westfakia
He has done exactly what you are thinking about.
If you can live without the pop-top, you can transplant the interior from a junkyard Westy, or go for the slick new modular setup at www.justkampers.com. I think that Ron at busdepot.com might stock these as well.

Good Luck.
