TK-series coils were used on Porsche 356 engines and possibly Mercedes-Benz. I don't see a date code, but it definitely pre-dates the spares catalog, which is dated 15 Oct 1952 and lists the TK6A3 (non-star) coil. which is actually fatter than the TE6A3 coil originally installed on VW engines from the Zwitter era through 1955.
My guess it's from a '50-'52 356. _________________ Thanks,

TK 6/3 is for Borgward Hansa 1500 up to Feb 1951. Hansa 1800 model 1952 had TK 6 A 3. As well as many other cars with bigger engines. |

I have a TK6A3 coil and it reads "Germany Importe D'Allemagne" if this is of any interest. Peter |

All this tells us is that you have a coil that was original equipment on 356A and 356B Porsches and has either the original or a repro yellow sticker. We'd be more interested in the date code stamped next to the "TK6A3". _________________ Thanks,

No date stamp but this certainly hasn't been on a vehicle for 45 years as I used it with an amplifier and microphone set up in the late fifties. I imagine it works but if it's of no use I'll dump it |

Don't dump it (in the trash). Take pictures and post it in either the classifieds (as a 356 part) here or on an auction site. There is an extremely strong market for used '50s parts in good condition, as NOS is virtually unobtainium. Date stamps are extremely small in many early Bosch parts and could have easily been filled in with black paint. _________________ Thanks,

Greg.. I never did look at the datecode on yours.. can you find it... check up there in the thread.. as Janerick said... 49-52 Porsche 356.. A porsche person I know with loads of experience said that by the end of 52 they were using the skinnier one. so... 49-51 1/2 356 is my best guess.
I have one on my Split.. Its dated Feb 1950. _________________ DB

Thanks for the tip.
I did some more asking and was told the fat coils were used up until '52
I'll have to dig it out and look for the date code |

Engine #32065 looked untouched when I got it. and came with a TK/6 star coil. #32065 is a 53 engine.
production year: 1953 (may not be correct for Carrera engines)
internal designation: 546
common name: 1500
October 53 owners manual, shows a picture of an engine with a star coil TK/6 , maybe they use the same page as the previous manuals ? _________________ Omar Almada

The December 1952 Porsche owners manual has the same photo showing a star coil on an early split-seem fan housing engine with mushroom air cleaners. Its an old drawing they reused from earlier owner's manuals. |

This is a Bosch TK6/1 coil. Date code 5U. I have no idea what it’s for and it’s a cool paper weight. But it would be fun if someone know what car it was used in.
