Is anyone re-popping the wood grain dash panels in anything other than wood grain? Looking for some CF or nice brushed aluminum. |

I have a '79 and am looking to do the same thing. I found this site: http://64.40.146.84/SBC/default.php?parent_id=967&=&proline_id=1
but I don't want to pay $200 for something that I can make myself. So, I am planning on going with a natural walnut burl veneer that I can buy online for 40 bucks, cut the pattern with a utility knife, and varnish it myself. Better quality than the faded orig. BUT, if there is a better way, I will follow this topic in hopes of alternatives! Good luck! |

Thanks for the site. I too don't want to pay hundreds of $$ for the kit. I'll keep trying. |

Awesome, I can't wait to see how it turns out. I have held off on doing mine because I'm not sold on going back with the wood; I haven't seen the CF in a bug yet, so I may go that way. Good luck! |

If you can, please keep a template for what you do. I am sure there are a lot of people like me that would like a copy. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

I'm using my wood grains as a template. I took special care in pealing them off real easy. I have to buy some more blades for my utility knife, or I'd be done already. I'll keep you all posted on the progress. |

In the Reader's Rides forum, there is a "post your german look" topic. There is a late super in there with CF inserts.

i made up new ones for my bug out of aluminium so i could mount extra gauges
originally i left the natural brushed aluminium finish
got sick of the glare from it so i painted it candy apple red
over that now so im in the process of carbon fibre coating it same as above but in black
check germanlook site plenty off ppl have done it in CF there

I would have liked to do brushed aluminum but I didn't have anything to cut or trim it with. Too hard to work with (for my simple ass). |

It's done! My only recommendation would be to not get the adhesive backing already applied by the seller (http://compositeenvisions.com/). It isn't really sticky enough. I will have to go back at a later date and glue some corners down a little better. All in all, I'm happy with it. And it's real carbon fiber!
