yes with modification (grinding) to the bell housing. a 74 tranny will not work without some EXTENSIVE mods. That car is a swing axle, and the 74 trans is an IRS.

I'm not sure what you mean. I think a 63 is 6volt but, what does that have to do with the tranny.

The white mountains is a region in east central AZ. Small rural population. most of us know who drive what VW's around here and who works on them too.

Well, here it is, $700 bucks. No motor but, has a tranny. Not the best find at the best price but the body is so straight it's suprising. There is a lot of work here. This will probably sit a few years before I do much to it.

I paid $1,700 for this 66. It is a California car that ended up in Kansas (no rust). The car came with the black and yellow california tags that were on the car back in the 60's. My car ran, but need some engine work, brake work and the interior was rough. A little tlc and a few hundred later I have a nice cruiser! It now has a 1914, lowered front beam and BRMs (see my avatar)

Saw the VW. It has no motor and a lot of the trim is off and missing such as around the headlights, blinkers, misc stuff. It is a rusty hunk of metal but the body is perfect (no dents anywhere) except for surface rust. The floor is good and they have come down to $800. What do you think?

Think ....Um, I'm confused.... You say the body is perfect (with no dents) - except for fact that it's a "rusty hunk of metal" Eh? **tilt!** Brick wall

It doesnt sound like much of a car to to build upon. Based on your information, I have a four-letter word for you...

NEXT!

Unless you have a lot of time, are very handy, have a decent amount of money burning a hole in your wallet, and just want something to experiment on, it sounds like one I'd pass on in lieu of something a little more solid and complete. It'd be worth it to pay to have nicer one shipped to you from a dry-climate state.
