Question to you guys... what engine compartment seal should I be using?
The cooling tin looks more like the T4 shape than the normal T1 shape which most of the pictures in this thread are. Should I be using a T4 seal?

I think you get the regular t4 H shaped seal.

Those are just euro tins for use of a early motor in a late bus.

Seeing how you are in Africa, the bus probably was equipped that way from the factory. And yes, please use a T-4 seal.

I love this thread. Nearly done with my T4 build. 1700 case, 2L jugs and hydraulic lifters. Pertronix distributor and still undecided on carbs.

I have found this thread a fantastic resource, and thought these pictures would be best posted in here. We toured Germany in the 1976 T2 bay this July and August and spent three days in Wolfsburg, including visiting the VolksWagen Automueum and the Autostadt. Fantastic town, will definitely be going there again.

In the Automuseum was a 2.0l VW Type 2 T2B Type 4 Engine on display, with cutaway sections. (Being a 2.0L engine, at least that is what is said on the plaque pictured below at 1970cc, I was surprised to see it had an 1800cc twin Solex carb set up fitted! - including a right hand carb unit I need! I suppose they used what they had lying around to build it up. Wish I had taken my spanner Wink ), hope these prove helpful to someone:

Note the connecting rod in the pic has the balancing boss on the small end 1.7-1.8L rod.
The 2L connecting rods did not have the balancing boss.
Wonder if the engine was a prototype?

2.0 L
Stock Cam and mechanical lifters (Web Cam)

RAT HAM improved heads (10 years old)

Dual Kadron carbs with modified Scat linkage (Kaddie Shack)

SS fuel line kit (Kaddie Shack). FYI, they don't sell a pre-made kit, only the straight lines and fittings. You have to do all the bending and fitting.

Type4Store solid rocker shaft spacers.

Empi breather box

Winterburn CD Ignition box. Using stock points.

Aircooled.Net anti-pulse valve (visible near passenger side carb)

Runs pretty good after some time getting the jetting correct. Probably should have kept the FI, but that is a story for another day.
