Here are a few pics of a stock 70's wiper motor assembly that I am about to mount behind the dash in my buggy
It's a little hard to tell, but I reversed the posts and the main mounting bracket so that the longer side of the post sticks out on the wiper arm side. I did this to allow more room on the back side of the dash for the gauges, as it makes the profile of the wiper assembly much skinnier.....it will be tight even with this change/alteration.
It seems that the movement works the same, no problems there, but I am of course concerned that the wipers arm springs will not have the same tension against the blades on the windsheild, as the fulcrum has moved farther out. I'm not married to this yet...anyone have any input or experience configuring their wipers this way? |

Wipers can be a pain. I have a Spatz buggy and I'll have to cut a bit of the scoop in the hood and move it down further to clear the wiper assembly. I might just open it up to cool our feet while driving.
Moving the wipers out further shouldn't be too bad. Think of it this way, if you are in a buggy and you are using the wipers, you shouldn't be out driving in the rain in the first place!

Part of me agrees with that...a car with no roof and no heater shouldn't really depend on wipers, but given how buried this assembly will be once I install the gauges, I want to make sure it's right, 'cause it ain't coming out again.
Different question: Can anyone with a Bentley tell me what the color coding/routing is of the four wires in the stock connector block? The brown ground wire is separate, I know that one, but could use some info on what the others should be connected to. This is a early 70's era wiper motor and harness. |
