What year was the book you got this information from?
I would like to see this Beetle information from 1950's VW literature.
I believe the back up lights were dealer accessories, not an M option in the 1950's.
M options from the 1960's do not always apply to split window beetles, as VW re-used these numbers several times over the years.
An example of this is M139. In 1960 it was for Sealed beam headlamps.
In 1967 M139 was for dual circuit brakes and drum brakes. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

Hallo John,
I got those from internet somewere and there was no year given. So I agree that it might be wrong.
