I replaced the brake servo with a new air tec model and replaced the master cylinder with a Brazilian one. New lower reservoir and new vacuum hoses to and from the servo. Getting ready to bleed....

Installed Vintage LEDs - 4000 Lumens - correctly, this time!
Replaced rear Seat belts with new green ones from car seat belts.
Replaced front turn signal lenses.
OH, also replaced the left front visor holder - you have to remove the visor then put in the holder, then slide in the visor and re-fasten! Clever Germans!

Would like to put the base on my new Berlin table, but can't find anything showing where it goes!

New brake light lenses. Five years on the old ones (left side) showed some weird heat-fading around the bulb area. Lenses looked light pink at night.

Wrapped up a quick 300-mile trip with this road to celebrate five years together. Razz

For a '70, that is a second gear climb.

Well i finally figured why i was running on 3 cylinders. Bought the van a month ago and i knew it wasn't running quite right but the drive home was 5 miles level and some down hil. Wasnt firing on #4, checked valve clearance, tried different plugs, checked plug wires, changed coil and cap. I then checked compression and #4 was 110. Thinking what the heck. Finally the last item i could check was to change distributor and bam shes running on all 4. It came with a 009 and 30pict-2, i had enough smarts to get a rebuilt 30pict-3 from volkzbitz and the rebuilt 205T from Bill Fowler. Tuned her up and she runs beautifully. Next is alot of delayed maintenance on the bus. This site has been awesome!

Enjoy
Rob

I drilled out the rivets on the bars on my westy luggage carrier, removed the bars and submerged them in Evaporust overnight and then after rinsing them, blasted them with Rustoleum cold galvanizing spray.

Cleaned out the accelerator cable tube, cleaned cable, installed new front boot with a load of grease in it and coated the cable and the inside of the tube with spray teflon.

Removed TDI starter preparatory to dropping engine / transmission package to have the transmission rebuilt for a better gear ratio to match the Subaru 2.2.

Also removed the transmission carrier bolts at the top of the transmission (091) bellhousing preparatory to dropping the package.

Replaced split brake fluid reservoir cap with new one way venting unit.

Replaced Emergency flasher switch, the old one having literally disintegrated in its enclosure.

Intend to have the transmission on its way to the shop in a week.

Still kicking, here in NJ.

Yesterday consisted of me tearing into the steering coupler to find out I ordered the wrong part, followed up by finally getting my wiring correct down there to have a working horn!
Honk, Honk baby, yeah I’m going 60mph, and YOU’RE driving like an a-hole! HONK! Ohhh, the joy to be had.

I finally got back to my emergency clutch cable replacement. Last fall, when my knee was blown out, the cable snapped, fortunately in my mother's driveway. After remembering there was an old spare under the bench seat, I found enough tools to replace it, but didn't grease it. Then I drove it back home for the winter.
so I got a new complete set and redid the whole thing with grease, seals and an improved bowden tube with metal tip instead of plastic. Found the old wing nut was only a single wing, lol. Glad I got the whole kit.
Pedal is smooth as butter now! Next is the gas pedal hinge, spring and through floor seal.
Noticed a gas line replacement may be in order. Probably the best thing I did... finding that. Not critical, but I'd rather that it not get that bad.

You might consider buying a new pedal linkage from Butty's Bits. It is a thing of beauty and works great. Simple to install too.

My lovely wife was asking for a grab handle for when we swing around corners and something to hold onto in the heat to get a bit of fresh air under the arms... So I put up this grab handle matching the door pull... Seems to work ok!
