Soak paper towel in the stuff, then wrap it around. It will stay in contact much longer. You can then just drip more on it and the paper will distribute it some.

Cool. The 74 and 75 have the best interior layout witha wider bed on the bottom. (I think). And the color is good. Even the stock engine, 1800 with 68 hp and cars was just fine. The carbs wear at the shafts but can be rebuilt and are pretty good.

Thanks guys, I'm definitely going to have a few questions.... and so will my dad. He hasn't had his to work on for 10 or 12 years. Its gonna need doglegs and somethings up with the slider, does not seem to be the track fortunately, and at sometime got an orange interior put in it. It does run though ! It was Yosemite yellow from the factory. Can't wait to get a build thread going when we give it to my dad. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Please start a Build thread for your Dad's bus and ask questions in it.

Well, I tried to bleed the brakes with my dad... pretty much did not go as planned.
With a lot of help from aeromech over the phone, I managed to get some of it done. Replaced the vacuum hose from the booster, install the booster and MC. The brake bleeding part..didn't go so well by pumping. I gave up in frustration.
The lines are new, servo rebuilt, and MC new.. I am guessing my system just had so much air in it that I wasn't patient enough. _________________ 1972 Westfalia P30 hardtop Campmobile [On-going Restoration]

Had our first bus delivered. Learned it was a Trinity Camper with a Sportsmobile roof (the penthouse I believe is the jargon, yes no?) and not a Sportsmobile but we love it just the same! Now to get it running...

I recently cleaned up the flocking on the poptop of our 77 Westy... much better now!
I used a basic bathroom cleaner (with bleach) in a spray bottle, rubbed it around with a stiff brush, then tried to rinse it out as best I could with a wet towel, dried with a dry towel, let it air out, and finally for overkill, gave it a quick going over with a vacuum a couple of days later.
It still looks dark down by the foot of the bed... just lighting though!

Followed up the inside poptop cleaning with some pre-trip jobs:
- pulled off the flat-and-bulb seal on the front of the poptop and replaced it with a Bus Depot flat seal
- oil and filter change
- cleaned grime off the oil pan and surrounding
- cleaned and lubed some typical stuff (slider, engine bay latch, etc)
- adjusted and tightened the mirrors
- we removed the bra from the front, so I covered up the emblem and antenna holes with some paint protection film (pickup truck rail PPF - extra durable)
- re-glued some veneer panels that were starting to peel
- found out my new tires won't be in on time for our trip... oh well... _________________ 1977 Westfalia 2.0 FI Skills EJ25 w SubaruGears 5sp

Finally got around to making a new wiring harness for the 70 amp alternator I've been running for years. I had snatched a proper 3 terminal plug for a 70 amp out of a junkyard and had it sitting around for years. Well today I got to the work of finally putting it use. All new wires with only the 3 terminal plugs being old.

fired it up the 71 and drove it out of the garage for the 1st time since October.
I've been mired in too many other projects to get the Blue Bay out..
put it on the trickle charger a few days ago.
got in gave a bunch of pumps for fuel...
fired up and poped the rear drums free from some sitting sticktion.
drove it home with some smoke for the 1st mile.. but smooth cruising after
that..
now to get it ready for the annual Brewerton VW show this weekend. _________________

I pulled the sink / icebox cabinet out of my camper to replace the hand pump faucet for the sink. Then I started to loader her up for a camping trip with the family! |

After 2 years + of "restoring" my bus, I am working on driving it for now. I've been tuning in my carb and getting it reliable. It's gotten a lot better. Upcoming projects consist of new tie rods and getting the e-brake working again (that wont be a fun project...)

That oughta be easy enough, two cables & good, properly adjusted shoes. An hour, maybe two. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
